West Indies head coach Daren Sammy has warned that playing Bangladesh in their own conditions will be challenging, as fast bowler Alzarri Joseph and white-ball captain Shai Hope were left out of the squad for the two-Test series starting in Dhaka on 28 October.
Sammy said West Indies wanted to finish in the top half of the World Test Championship standings and believed a series victory in Bangladesh would help them move closer to that target. West Indies currently sit eighth.
"At the start of this World Test Championship cycle we set ourselves goals, and one of them was to finish in the top half of the rankings," the former all-rounder said. "Winning this series would move us closer to it. Playing Bangladesh in their own conditions will be challenging, and we're ready for that."
Joseph has been withdrawn to manage his workload and reduce injury risk, while Hope has been rested after an extended run across all three formats ahead of the ODI World Cup qualifiers in February 2027.
All-rounder Keemo Paul replaces Joseph, while 23-year-old batter Kevin Wickham has earned his maiden Test call-up after scoring three centuries in as many innings in the West Indies Championship, Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced 15-member squad on Wednesday.
Opening batter John Campbell also returns after recovering from a hamstring injury that ruled him out of the home series against Pakistan. Kirk McKenzie, who replaced him, has been omitted.
The full squad will arrive in Bangladesh on 18 October, with a three-day warm-up match scheduled in Anvir Cricket Stadium at the ABG Sports City from 22 to 24 October.
The first Test begins in Dhaka on 28 October, while the second will start in Sylhet on 5 November.
