Telangana Technology Services (TGTS) has issued a notification of award to TrayamBhu Tech Solutions (TRST01), a Hyderabad-headquartered company, for implementation of traceability of GI-tagged Tandur Red Gram for the Department of Agriculture.
The project, under the NeGPA 2025-26 scheme, on the back of a digital traceability platform built by TRST01, will involve onboarding of about 65,000 Tandur Red Gram farmers in the designated area of Telangana. The initiative will provide farmers a unique digital identity, strengthen bargaining power and promote inclusion of women farmers in the agricultural ecosystem, the company said in a release recently.
TRST01 will register each farmer with a digital profile linked to their land, crop and harvest. Consequently, the individual grower behind every lot of Tandur Red Gram will be recorded and recognised. The company will also build a digital record that follows Tandur Red Gram from the farm through aggregation, processing and distribution to the buyer.
Popularly known as Tandur Toor Dal, Tandur Red Gram is Telangana’s first agricultural product to receive a Geographical Indication (GI) tag. The GI is held by Yalal Farmers Producers Company, which filed the application with support from Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU).
TRST01 will undertake the mapping of farm plots and checking against the registered GI area of Tandur, to ensure GI authenticity to rein in the problem of fake ‘Tandur Dal’.
The Tandur Red Gram crop is grown in the rainfed black soils of the Tandur region in Vikarabad district. These soils are rich in limestone and attapulgite clay, which give the dal its taste, cooking quality and 22-24% protein content, said TRST01, which is a supply chain traceability and digital public infrastructure company.
Founder and CEO Prabir Mishra said a GI tag protects the identity of a product, while traceability makes that identity visible and verifiable across the value chain.
