Erongo governor Nathalia |Goagoses has officially handed over the Usakos Multi-Purpose Sport Facility to the Namibia Institute of Mining and Technology for construction to start.
The handover took place on Thursday and marks progress regarding the implementation of the sport infrastructure project, which forms part of the government’s investment in expanding access to sport facilities across Namibia.
“Today, I am happy to announce that everything else, also me being an administrator, is now in place,” the governor said.
She said the groundbreaking ceremony had taken place earlier this year, after which her office worked to ensure the necessary administrative processes, contracts and logistical arrangements were completed.
The governor said people may have been wondering when construction would begin, saying her team had been working to ensure the project could proceed.
She said the next step was to hand over the site to the appointed contractor.
The facility is expected to provide opportunities for youth development, talent identification and increased participation in sport at Usakos and the wider Erongo region.
The project aligns with the eighth administration prioritising sport and its commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles through improved sport infrastructure.
The facility is intended to create a platform for young people to participate in sporting activities, develop their talents and pursue sporting opportunities closer to home.
