IMPHAL, Oct 14: The Naga People’s Organisation (NPO) has demanded immediate recovery and return of the severed head of Ajinbou Ringkangmai to the bereaved family so that the last rites can be performed with dignity as per customs and traditions.
Notably, four Nagas identified as Ajinbou Ring-kangmai, Machun-gamang Daimai, Ramningpou Gangmei and Dibambou Ringkangmai were killed in an attack carried out by Kuki militants at Makui Ashang and Tapon villages of IT area on October 10, 2026.
Not only did they take precious lives but the perpetrators also committed an act of extreme barbarity by severing and taking away the head of one of the victims, the NPO said in a press release.
It said that this act was not only a heinous crime but also an act of desecration against human dignity, customary practices and all human values.
Denying the family the right to perform the last rites with full dignity has caused unbearable trauma and anguish, the NPO said.
Condoling the bereaved families and praying for speedy recovery of those who have been seriously injured, the NPO has appealed to all citizens to maintain peace and unity during this difficult time and not to resort to any form of violence.
The NPO has also demanded immediate arrest and severest punishment of all perpetrators involved in the barbaric killing.
It said that the Government must ensure a fast-track investigation and trial.
It further demanded adequate security and protection of the victims’ families and other vulnerable villages.
“If our demands are not met at the earliest, we will be compelled to resort to any form of agitation to seek justice”, it added.
The Liangmai Pui Naga Ruangdi (LPNR) has also condemned in the strongest terms the brutal killing of four innocent Naga men at Makui and Tapon, including the barbaric decapitation of one victim and seriously injuring two others on October 10, 2026.
The LPNR has also condemned the firing of automatic weapons at unarmed Makui villagers engaged in social work below the village’s main gate today.
These repeated attacks underscore the urgent need for effective measures to protect Naga villages and prevent further loss of life, the LPNR said in a press release.
Endorsing the demands raised by the JTCM Working Committee, the LPNR has called upon the Government of India, Government of Manipur and security agencies to intervene immediately, ensure civilian protection and conduct a fair, impartial and time-bound investigation into these incidents, and bring all those responsible to justice in accordance with the law.
