Agartala, October 15, 2026: Security forces recovered 327.7 kg of dry ganja, estimated to be worth around Rs 1.64 crore, during a joint anti-narcotics operation in the Kamalnagar Krishnadola area of Sepahijala district in the early hours.
The contraband was found packed in seven plastic drums during a search conducted jointly by Sonamura Police Station, the 81st Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) and the 11th Battalion of Tripura State Rifles (TSR).
According to police sources, the operation was launched at around 12.30 am on the basis of specific intelligence inputs and continued until 5 am. The joint team thoroughly searched the targeted area and recovered a total of 327.700 kg of dry cannabis.
No one came forward to claim ownership of the consignment, following which the seized ganja was treated as unclaimed. The contraband was taken into custody after completion of the necessary legal formalities.
Police estimated the market value of the seized cannabis at approximately Rs 1,63,85,000.
An investigation has been initiated by Sonamura Police Station to trace the individuals involved in storing the contraband in the area and establish the circumstances surrounding the consignment.
The seizure comes amid continued efforts by security agencies to curb drug trafficking in Tripura, particularly in border areas. Sepahijala district shares a significant stretch of the international boundary with Bangladesh, making coordinated surveillance and intelligence-based operations important in preventing the movement of illegal consignments.
