Former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) National Executive Committee member Tom Alila has urged FKF president Hussein Mohammed to listen to grievances raised by some NEC members, warning that unresolved disputes could prolong the federation’s leadership standoff.
Speaking on Citizen TV’s Sporty Monday, Alila said the president needed the support of NEC members to ensure effective decision-making and smooth running of the federation.
“The president needs to understand that he cannot run the federation without the NEC members’ agreement. No decisions will be passed, so he needs to humble himself and listen to their grievances. Otherwise, we will continue having a standoff, which is not good for the country,” said Alila.
Alila also called for greater transparency and accountability at FKF, saying these were essential to building confidence among sponsors and attracting investment into the domestic league and the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
“Accountability brings trust from the government and sponsors. If you are not transparent, you are chasing sponsors away, and that is a bad image for the federation and the nation,” he said.
On AFCON 2027 preparations, Alila urged the Local Organising Committee (LOC) to prioritise regional companies in the tournament’s procurement process, saying local businesses should benefit economically from hosting the continental showpiece.
He added that the tendering process should remain open and competitive while giving companies in East Africa an opportunity to contribute to the tournament and the region’s economic growth.
