The Mysuru Division of the South Western Railway made extensive arrangements to manage the heavy passenger rush during the Dasara festivities on Tuesday (October 20) and Wednesday (October 21), operating additional trains, strengthening security and augmenting passenger amenities at Mysuru Railway Station.
Five pairs of additional trains were operated to cater to increased demand on key routes, including Bengaluru, Arsikere, Chamarajanagar and the Davangere–Hospet section. A special Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) service was also introduced between Mysuru and Arsikere, while temporary stoppages were provided for select trains to improve connectivity.
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) deployed additional personnel at platforms, foot overbridges, entry and exit points, booking areas and other strategic locations. CCTV surveillance, baggage screening and dog squads were pressed into service to strengthen security.
Two health kiosks were set up near the entry points at Platforms 1 and 6, with doctors providing medical assistance. Ambulances were stationed at both ends of the station to handle emergencies.
To improve passenger amenities, the Engineering Department installed 30 additional stainless-steel drinking-water pedestals across the platforms. Maintenance teams attended to foot overbridges, toilets, drainage and water supply systems, while additional staff monitored lifts and escalators, according to railway officials.
Rail Museum draws visitors
The Mysuru Rail Museum extended its opening hours until 8 p.m. from October 11 to 21 to accommodate visitors during the festivities. It recorded 5,073 adult visitors, 1,335 children and 65 senior citizens, generating revenue of ₹6,65,225 during the period.
Railway tableau
The South Western Railway also showcased a tableau during the Dasara procession, tracing the evolution of railway motive power through the YP steam locomotive, WDM-2 diesel locomotive, WAP-7 electric locomotive and an indigenous hydrogen fuel-cell train, said Girish Dharmaraj Kalagonda, Divisional Commercial Manager, Mysuru division.
The tableau also highlighted the ongoing redevelopment of Mysuru Railway Station, including the development of a third entry and modern passenger amenities.
