Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams isn’t satisfied with his performances to begin the 2026 NFL season. Despite previously receiving public support from quarterback Jared Goff following a difficult Week 1 outing, Williams believes he needs to raise his standards.
The 25-year-old receiver acknowledged his struggles and accepted responsibility for not delivering the production he expects from himself.
“I haven’t been playing up to my standards. So, I’ve just gotta take more accountability and make more plays,” Williams said, according to Eric Woodyard.

His admission comes after an inconsistent start to the campaign, including three dropped passes against the New Orleans Saints in Detroit’s season opener.
Williams nevertheless made a crucial sideline reception in overtime, helping the Lions secure a 31-30 victory.
Goff defended his teammate afterward, expressing confidence in Williams despite the mistakes.
“I’m not worried about him in the slightest,” Goff said following that contest.
Williams entered the season with 1,117 receiving yards and seven touchdowns, demonstrating his ability to stretch opposing defenses.
Although Williams has shown flashes of improvement during the opening weeks, his latest comments suggest he expects greater consistency.
Detroit relies on his speed and big-play ability to complement an offense featuring Goff, Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jahmyr Gibbs.
For Williams, the challenge now is translating his self-criticism into improved execution on the field.
His willingness to acknowledge his shortcomings offers an encouraging sign, but ultimately, his response during games will matter most.
With plenty of football remaining, Williams still has opportunities to regain his rhythm and prove he can consistently deliver when Detroit needs him most.
