Google has teamed up with Glance, an AI-powered personal shopping platform backed by global technology company InMobi, to “enhance the television experience” for consumers by bringing AI-powered commerce to Android TVs.
Glance said in a statement that the partnership “will evolve the ambient screen from a passive backdrop into an interactive, AI-driven inspiration portal for shopping and discovery.”
Terms of the partnership were not disclosed.
The rollout on Android TVs is across the U.S., India and Japan. Glance said the integration gives shoppers a dynamic, opt-in ecosystem, which serves as a “personal lifestyle engine” powered by an intelligent shopping agent. But there’s more. “The partnership addresses an underutilized asset in the modern home: the TV screen during ‘off’ hours,” the company said, adding that while traditional ambient modes offer limited utility, “the Glance-powered experience turns the screen into a continuous discovery surface.”
Naveen Tewari, CEO and founder at InMobi and Glance, said the integration transforms the traditional living room. “We are moving beyond the era of the ‘dormant’ screen,” said Naveen Tewari, CEO and Founder at InMobi and Glance. “By combining the scale of Google’s Android TV ecosystem with Glance’s AI-first commerce models, we are turning the living room into a space where inspiration meets intent. Whether it’s fashion, home décor, or travel, we’re making shopping and discovery seamless, immersive, and interactive.”
The company said the integration introduces features and new capabilities designed to enhance the consumer lifestyle. This includes an AI-powered shopping agent that serves as a unified commerce layer across mobile devices and TV and allows users “to move from inspiration to intent instantly.” The system is powered by hundreds of retail and brand integrations and acts as a personal concierge for curated products.
The integration also offers a more immersive product discovery experience for shoppers. “Consumers can explore high-definition content across fashion, travel, food, wellness and other lifestyle categories,” the company said, adding that the platform uses proprietary AI, offering “contextual lifestyle simulations” as well as try-on visualizations.
Other features include “shop the look,” where consumers can interact with curated looks on their screen and then purchase products directly through integrated retail partners. The company said the experience is also entirely opt-in, “ensuring that the shift from the default Google Backdrop to the Glance ambient experience is driven by user choice and value.”
Glance said that for Google, the partnership enhances the utility of the Android TV platform and turns it into an interactive “lifestyle hub.” For its part, Glance said the collaboration marks a significant increase “in its global distribution, building on existing partnerships with Airtel and DirectTV to reach millions of households.”
For apparel retailers and brands, this partnership represents a high-impact evolution in shoppable media by converting the living room’s largest display into a continuous, high-intent storefront during idle hours. By inserting interactive, AI-driven virtual try-ons and “shop the look” capabilities directly into ambient TV displays, retailers and brands can engage consumers with immersive product visualizations in a low-friction environment before active purchasing intent even begins.
The unified commerce agent bridging TV and mobile devices also creates a cross-screen funnel that allows fashion apparel brands to capture spontaneous consumer interest and turn passive discovery into direct-to-consumer sales.
