Katie Boulter's grandfather: Brian Gartshore
One of the most heartwarming threads of Katie's story is her bond with her maternal grandfather, Brian Gartshore. He attended her matches during Wimbledon 2022 alongside her mum, and Katie's Instagram is full of photos of the two together — at dinner, watching Leicester City, and on country walks.
Katie has described him as "literally my idol," saying he "put down the airfield lights at Gatwick and Heathrow" and that they "have some great conversations about nothing to do with tennis."
At the 2022 Wimbledon, two days after the death of her grandmother, Katie returned to the grass — she wasn't going to miss a chance to play at her grandma's favourite tennis tournament. Her grandfather was right there on Centre Court watching every twist and every turn, and ultimately the emotional celebration that came with an upset victory. She said:
"I was lucky because my grandpa managed to come down from Leicester, and so we could keep him company and keep supporting him at the same time."
He was also in attendance at the 2024 Rothesay Open final and was later spotted in a group photograph taken during the victory celebrations in Nottingham.
