The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Tuesday (October 20, 2026) moved the Delhi High Court for an urgent hearing over the extension of the judicial custody of its leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das.
“We have moved the Delhi High Court and requested an urgent night hearing. Saurav and Ashutosh should not spend a single minute behind bars. Their liberty must not be curtailed because of political games,” Ratna Singh, CJP’s legal head, said in a post on X. The CJP has sought a night hearing in the Delhi High Court, which is shut this week due to Dasara.
A newly-appointed Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) at Mandir Marg police station on Monday (October 19, 2026) ordered Mr. Das’s and Mr. Ranka’s judicial remand for two more days after they were produced before him. The two leaders were taken into custody on October 13 after they allegedly climbed over a locked gate to enter Jantar Mantar, which had earlier been denotified as a designated protest site, and were sent to five-day judicial custody initially.
The CJP has alleged that the bail proceedings in the case have been deliberately delayed to prevent the release of its leaders. Along with other CJP workers, Mr. Das and Mr. Ranka displayed the national flag at the site and shouted slogans against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar before being detained and placed under preventive arrest.
