For a limited time, Best Buy is slashing 42% off the last-gen Sony WH-1000XM5, knocking the flagship headphones down to $228.
Noise-cancelling headphones are pretty much essential in this day and age, but the best models aren’t cheap. Fortunately, you can save a lot by going last-gen, and there’s one pair that still delivers a flagship-level listening experience without breaking the bank.
The WH-1000XM5 by Sony have been my favorite headphones since they launched back in 2022, and now they’re 42% off at Best Buy.

Despite their slightly advanced age, the Sony WH-1000XM5 still hold up today with powerful ANC, a timeless design, and up to 40 hours of battery life. Buy the headphones from Best Buy today and you'll score a straight $170 off your purchase, weeks before Black Friday.
Save big on Sony headphones by going last-gen
Despite being last-gen, the Sony WH-1000XM5 continue to impress with a clear and balanced audio profile, up to 40 hours of battery life, and powerful active noise cancellation (ANC) that you can fine-tune from the companion app.
The design of the Sony WH-1000XM5 is modern and discreet, and they’re comfortable enough to wear all day (trust me, I do it all the time). The multi-device Bluetooth connections work pretty seamlessly too, so you can easily switch the audio source from your phone to your smart TV without skipping a beat.
Eight built-in microphones also ensure that your call quality is crystal-clear, plus the Sound Connect companion app comes with an optional Adaptive Sound Control feature that automatically adjusts your ANC/transparency settings based on your listening habits.
So what's the catch?
Unlike 2020’s Sony WH-1000XM4 and the newer Sony WH-1000XM6, the XM5 don’t have the flexible design that lets you fold up the headphones for travel. They do come with a protective carrying case, which is nice, but the rigid frame might be an issue for users who need particularly portable headphones.
It’s also worth mentioning that the WH-1000XM6 are the newest flagship headphones from Sony, and with Black Friday just around the corner, it’s hard to know what kind of discounts we’ll be seeing on the new cans in the coming weeks.
With that being said, if you want a great deal on a tried-and-tested pair of noise-cancelling headphones today, this Sony WH-1000XM5 discount from Best Buy would be my recommendation. The deal could end at any moment, however, so don’t wait too long if you’re interested!
