Members of the Youth Association of Mohammad Ali Park lit candles and offered prayers on Friday evening in memory of those killed and injured in the Chorebagan stampede on October 17.
Chorebagan is less than half a kilometre from Mohammad Ali Park along Central Avenue.
The committee also held a solemn, silent immersion, without the usual dhol (drums) or band, as a mark of respect and solidarity with the bereaved families and those injured.
The bodies of the deceased were taken for post-mortem examinations at the Kolkata Police Morgue, behind the park, on October 18.
Families and friends gathered there had blamed the organisers’ apathy and incompetence for the loss of lives.
Surendra Kumar Sharma, general secretary of the Youth Association of Mohammad Ali Park, said the association wanted to express its solidarity with the families affected by the Chorebagan tragedy.
“We lit candles in their memory and decided to conduct our Durga Puja immersion in simplicity and silence. Through this gesture, we wish to express our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured,” he said.
