Tajikistan supports strengthening a multipolar international system and expanding constructive cooperation between states, President Emomali Rahmon said at the seventh summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Baku on October 15.
According to the president’s official website, Rahmon said that amid growing geopolitical competition, armed conflicts and security threats, mutual trust, respect for international law and the peaceful settlement of disputes were becoming increasingly important.
He said CICA could play a greater role as a platform for dialogue among Asian countries.
One of the key issues in his address was Tajikistan’s initiative to declare 2027–2036 the International Decade of Peace-Building for the Benefit of Future Generations, which has been approved by the UN General Assembly.
Rahmon said the initiative would help strengthen dialogue between states, promote a culture of peace and prevent conflicts. Dushanbe plans to host a high-level international conference on the initiative in May 2027, in cooperation with the UN and other international partners.
The president also reaffirmed Tajikistan’s commitment to promoting the “Dushanbe Process on Combating Terrorism and Its Financing.” He identified terrorism, extremism, transnational organized crime, cyber threats and illicit drug trafficking as major security challenges.
On economic issues, Rahmon called for stronger regional cooperation in transport and logistics, simpler customs procedures, and the development of the digital economy, green energy and industry.
He also highlighted the potential of artificial intelligence to support sustainable development in Central Asia and proposed establishing a regional AI center in Dushanbe.
Addressing climate change, Rahmon recalled that Dushanbe is scheduled to host a UN conference on water issues in 2028.
He further proposed expanding the role of the CICA Youth Summit and turning it into a permanent platform for exchanging experience and developing joint initiatives among young people from member states.
Rahmon expressed confidence that CICA would continue to promote trust, solidarity and partnership among Asian countries.
