ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Rocco Becht committed three turnovers that led to all of Michigan’s points as the Wolverines kept Penn State winless in the Big Ten with a 21-18 victory Saturday at Michigan Stadium.
Becht threw two interceptions and lost a fumble in the second half as Michigan (1-2, 4-2) beat the Nittany Lions for the fourth straight time.
Wolverines freshman quarterback Tommy Carr, the grandson of former Michigan coach Lloyd Carr, replaced the much-heralded Bryce Underwood to start the second half and ignited the offense in the second half. He passed for 47 yards and rushed for 36 yards and a touchdown that made it 21-11 with 2:58 left.
Becht then directed an 11-play, 73-yard drive that he capped with a 24-yard TD pass to Chase Sowell, who finished with 11 receptions for 151 yards.
But Michigan recovered the onside kick and ran out the final 70 seconds.
Becht completed 28-of-44 passes for 267 yards, but the turnovers, two inside Penn State territory, cost the Lions.
Zion Tracy and Josiah Zayas made spectacular interceptions on Underwood passes, and Tony Rojas had a game-high 12 tackles.
