SEOUL, Oct. 20 (Yonhap) -- Samsung Electronics Co. said Tuesday that it will launch its first open-ear earbuds, dubbed the Galaxy Buds On, next week.
The earbuds will go on sale in South Korea on Oct. 27 with a single black color option, priced at 299,000 won (US$225), the tech giant said.
The Galaxy Buds On feature an open-ear design that rests lightly on the ears, allowing users to listen to music and watch video content while remaining aware of their surroundings.
The product also targets runners who need to stay alert to their surroundings, as well as users who want to hear ambient sounds while wearing earbuds in their daily lives.
The tech giant said it conducted various simulations using artificial intelligence (AI)-based optimization technology powered by four-dimensional (4D) computing and applied ergonomic design principles.
"If an idea suddenly comes to mind, users can call up Gemini Live to flesh it out through conversation or quickly record ideas and to-do lists using Quick Voice Memo, making the earbuds highly practical for everyday use," said Nam Hyun-jeon, a Samsung official in charge of wearable products.
When paired with a smartphone or tablet, the earbuds support hands-free AI voice commands, Samsung said.
They also feature head gestures, which recognize users' head movements, and touch controls on the earbuds.
Samsung has yet to determine the launch schedule for other markets.
