Police Say They Have No New Orders On Najib’s House Arrest After Confirmation He Would Stay At Langgak Duta

Sentul district police chief ACP Anuar Bakri Abdul Salam said the situation outside Najib's residence in Jalan Langgak Duta, Kuala Lumpur, remained quiet as of Friday, 16 October.

"As of now, we have yet to receive any additional information," he told The Star when contacted.

According to the English newspaper, several police cones had been placed outside the residence, while a police van was stationed nearby. However, there were no visible signs of special preparations at the property.

In a statement on Friday, Lim questioned why the department had advised Najib against revealing the contents of his home confinement order, saying that keeping the details under wraps could fuel public speculation.

He also raised questions about the restrictions Najib would face while serving his sentence at home, including whether he would be allowed to receive visitors, use the Internet and social media, watch television, or have access to entertainment.

"The public has a right to know what the conditions of Najib's house arrest are. Who is permitted to visit? Can he use the telephone, the Internet, and social media? What about television, entertainment, and the freedom to receive guests? Is he required to wear an electronic tracking tag or be monitored at all times?" Lim said.

The Democratic Action Party (DAP) lawmaker stressed that Najib would still be serving a prison sentence despite being allowed to do so outside a conventional prison facility.

"Najib is still a prisoner, not a person who has been released," he said.

Lim added that the case could set a precedent for future home confinement arrangements, making transparency over the basic terms of the arrangement particularly important.

While acknowledging that certain security-related details might need to remain confidential, he maintained that the public should be informed of the fundamental conditions governing Najib's confinement.

"House arrest is not a holiday in a luxurious bungalow. If everything is by the book, why be afraid for the public to know?" he said.

On Wednesday, 14 October, Najib's lead counsel, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, confirmed that his client had received a home confinement order, including an appendix detailing its conditions and implementation mechanism.

However, Muhammad Shafee said the Prisons Department had advised Najib not to disclose the contents of the order to avoid speculation among the public and media.

The lawyer also confirmed that the home confinement arrangement would take place at Najib's residence in Kuala Lumpur.

Neither the police nor the statements cited above have provided further details about the specific restrictions governing the arrangement.

On 18 September, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, granted Najib a conditional pardon allowing him to serve the remainder of his six-year prison sentence for the SRC International case under house arrest.

The arrangement is subject to the conditions stipulated in the pardon, including payment of a RM50 million fine, which he has yet to pay.

Najib's sentence in the SRC International case is due to end on 23 August 2028. The case is not related to his other guilty verdict in a separate 1MDB sentence.

On 26 December, 2025, the Kuala Lumpur High Court sentenced Najib to 15 years in prison after convicting him of four counts of abuse of power and 21 counts of money laundering involving about RM2.3 billion in 1MDB funds.

That sentence is ordered to begin after he completes his SRC International sentence.
