A move to the Milwaukee Bucks was supposed to offer Tyler Herro a fresh start in his NBA career, but the former Miami Heat guard is facing renewed scrutiny over a contentious custody dispute with his former partner, Katya Henry.
Henry has filed court documents alleging that Herro sends aggressive and inappropriate messages when the former couple attempts to discuss arrangements involving their two young children.
Tyler Herro looks to be close to returning with Game 2 warm up
According to TMZ, which obtained the filing, Henry wants their communication restricted to a court-approved parenting application rather than continuing through direct text messages or family members.
The disagreement comes as Herro prepares for his first season in Milwaukee following a June trade that has placed greater geographical distance between him and his children.
Henry claims that Herro has insisted discussions involving their children should take place through his mother, rather than directly between the parents.
She described that approach in the filing as an "unreasonable and irresponsible position," arguing that it creates unnecessary complications when important parenting decisions need to be made.
According to Henry, attempts to communicate with Herro have frequently produced responses delivered in an "aggressive, inappropriate and emotionally charged manner."
She also alleges that certain text messages violated an existing court order requiring respectful exchanges between the former couple.
The messages were "incredibly disrespectful and far from courteous or formal," Henry claimed in documents cited by TMZ.
Her latest request seeks to establish clearer boundaries by requiring both parents to use an approved messaging platform for discussions about their children.
Bucks trade complicates parenting arrangements
Herro and Henry share two children, daughter Zya, born in September 2021, and son Harlem, born in January 2023.
Following their separation in early 2025, Henry says she assumed most of the responsibility for the children's day-to-day care while remaining in Miami.
The situation became more complicated when Herro moved to Milwaukee, creating a significant distance between the parents.
Henry alleges that the NBA guard has been "suddenly requesting increased contact and access that can only be accomplished by lengthy air travel involving several moving parts."
She previously sought primary custody and requested safeguards around Herro's parenting time, although the Bucks player has rejected the suggestion that restrictions are necessary.
Herro embraces fresh start amid custody dispute
While the legal disagreement continues, Herro has spoken positively about returning to his home state of Wisconsin.
"I was kind of pushing for [the trade]. I wanted to come home, have a fresh start. I'm glad it happened, honestly," Herro told SiriusXM.
He also welcomed the opportunity to work with a different coaching staff and embrace the culture developing within the Milwaukee organization.
"Really, everyone in the building is kind of new, and we're all just, you know, embracing this new culture that we're implementing," he said.
The Bucks begin their regular season against the Washington Wizards on October 21, marking the beginning of Herro's latest professional chapter.
However, away from basketball, the unresolved custody proceedings continue to place attention on how Herro and Henry will manage their responsibilities as parents while living in different cities.
