Around 4:30 p.m. on Friday, a semitruck and trailer was travelling west on Highway 99 just past the Highway 91 interchange when it was involved in an accident that sent it careening through the median and into continuing traffic, where it struck an SUV and double-decker TransLink bus carrying close to 60 passengers. The chaotic scene seemed to have been sparked by a westbound accident in front of the truck, which then swerved to avoid the pileup and ended up in the eastbound lanes.
Police have asked the public for any dashcam or video footage of the accident for their investigation, and can contact Surrey Police’s non-emergency number at 604-599-0502 and quote file 26-111726.
In addition to the ambulance response, other emergency services which attended the scene included the Delta Police Department officers, City of Surrey, Ministry of Transportation and transit staff, as the highway remained blocked until after 9 p.m.
