The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has held discussions with British government officials and Nigerians living in the United Kingdom as part of engagements focused on Nigeria’s development.
Obi said the meetings addressed challenges facing the country, including poor leadership, corruption and the lack of accountability in public office.
The former Anambra State governor disclosed this in a post on his X account on Thursday, October 22, following his arrival in London from Basel, Switzerland.
According to Obi, he arrived in the British capital at about 7 a.m. on Wednesday, October 21, before beginning a series of meetings with stakeholders.

He said the day’s activities ended with a gathering organised by the COPDEM chief and the NDC Director of Diaspora Affairs, which brought together Nigerians and other stakeholders in London.
Obi explained that the conversations focused on the need for collective action to address governance failures and create better conditions for Nigerians at home and abroad.
He argued that poor leadership and other systemic problems had continued to limit access to essential services and opportunities, leaving millions of citizens struggling to obtain quality healthcare, education and decent employment.

The NDC presidential candidate said Nigeria needed a system that offered equal opportunities to citizens, regardless of their family background, social status or connections.
He stressed that hard work should be rewarded and that every Nigerian should have a fair chance to succeed.
“We must build a Nigeria where the child of nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody,” Obi said.
He added that the country should be developed to serve the interests of the wider population rather than a privileged minority.
