SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government is stepping up efforts to monitor the spread of Ahmadiyah Qadiani teachings in the state through the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais), in cooperation with mosques and surau.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the efforts also included educating the public on the differences between Ahmadiyah Qadiani teachings and the beliefs of Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah, an initiative that had been ongoing for years.
"Mosques and surau play an important role in promptly contacting Jais if they detect any suspicious activities related to Islam.
"We also organise large-scale programmes to explain the differences between Ahmadiyah or Qadiani teachings and the practices of Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah," he told reporters after the launch of a collaboration involving Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor), Universiti Selangor (Unisel) and the Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre (STDC) here today.
On Oct 17, the media reported that two premises in Kampung Nakhoda and Kampung Laksamana, Gombak, one of which was raided by the authorities, were believed to have been used by foreigners as centres for Ahmadiyah Qadiani teachings.
The premises were reportedly not authorised by the Selangor Islamic Religious Council to conduct Friday prayers and were believed to have been used by foreigners, suspected to be from Pakistan, as gathering places to spread the teachings.
Yesterday, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said his office would seek further information on developments in the case involving the detention of 288 individuals linked to the teachings in Sabah.
