The Korea Animation Industry Association is strengthening cooperation with China's animation industry in artificial intelligence-based content production and intellectual property.
The association said on the 23rd that it co-hosted the 2026 Yangtze River Delta Animation Industry Summit in Shanghai on the 22nd, together with the Shanghai Animation and Comic Industry Association and the Beijing Business Center of the Korea Creative Content Agency.
The summit was held under the theme of intelligent innovation in digital content and global co-creation of IP, aiming to explore animation production innovation using AI technology and cooperation between Korean and Chinese content companies. Officials from both governments and related agencies took part, along with major content platforms and production houses including ByteDance and iQIYI.
At the event, associations and agencies from the two countries officially launched the Korea-China AIGC Creative Contest. The contest is designed to build capabilities in AI-based content production and to identify joint projects between creators in the two countries. Related organizations, including the Korea-China AI Exchange Association (KCAIA), also joined to discuss AI video production technology and ways to link distribution through over-the-top (OTT) services.
Korean animation studios shared their use of AI technology and strategies for entering overseas markets. Studio Animal presented on IP-centered competitiveness in animation production, Stellain on strategies for expanding global audiences through story IP, and Ocon on convergence with the AI industry and new growth opportunities. In the roundtable and business networking sessions that followed, companies from both countries discussed co-production, IP licensing, investment and distribution cooperation.
Cho Kyung-hoon, chairman of the Korea Animation Industry Association, said, "Both industries can advance when Korean animation's original planning capabilities and outstanding adaptability in the field combine organically with China's vast market and solid industrial infrastructure." He added, "We hope that, starting with this summit, the two countries will move beyond simple exchanges and develop into practical partners that tackle the global market together."
