Guwahati: In a move aimed at giving the city’s media fraternity a creative outlet beyond the daily grind of deadlines and breaking news, the Gauhati Press Club (GPC) on Sunday formally launched “GPC Chronicle”, an e-magazine brought out for the Durga Puja season, offering journalists a platform to showcase their thinking, creativity and literary talent.
The club authorities described the publication as a new initiative, one designed specifically for the media workers who make up its membership and who, more often than not, tell other people’s stories rather than their own.
At the launch, the editorial and management committee candidly acknowledged that the magazine had to be put together within a very short window, which means some inadvertent errors may have crept into this first edition. The committee apologised sincerely for any such lapses and requested readers to take them in good spirit, given the constraints under which the issue was prepared.

Looking beyond the debut issue, the club also set out a longer-term goal for the publication. It intends to nurture “GPC Chronicle” into a lasting, tradition-rich common platform for the creative work of its members, and the organisers hope that the affection, cooperation and constructive suggestions of those members will enrich the magazine steadily in the years ahead.
