PETALING JAYA: Rantau Panjang Member of Parliament Datuk Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff suffered chest and abdominal injuries after the sports utility vehicle (SUV) she was travelling in was involved in a single-vehicle accident along the Lingkaran Tengah Utama (LTU) highway in Kechau Tui on Sunday.
Lipis district police chief Superintendent Ismail Man said the accident occurred at about 6pm at Km7 of the highway.
He said the SUV was driven by Siti Zailah’s 26-year-old daughter, with the pair travelling from Gua Musang, Kelantan, to Kuala Lumpur for work-related purposes.
“Preliminary investigations found that the driver is believed to have lost control of the vehicle upon reaching the location, causing it to spin before crashing into the road barrier on the right.
“The driver escaped unhurt, while the passenger, the Rantau Panjang MP, suffered injuries to her chest and abdomen,” he said in a statement.
Ismail said Siti Zailah was taken to Kuala Lipis Hospital for further treatment.
He added that police were investigating the case under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Members of the public and witnesses who have information about the incident are urged to contact police to assist with investigations.
