A UK-based crypto trader says intruders taped him up, held him at knifepoint, and robbed him of $800,000 on Monday night. The wallet he flagged shows roughly $756,000 parked there before being moved out.
Key Takeaways
- A crypto owner says robbers held him at knifepoint in the UK and took $800K in crypto earlier today.
- A Solana wallet he flagged took in 718,735 USDC and 346 SOL, then was emptied within 32 minutes of his post.
- Chainalysis noted $30 million worth of wrench attacks in H1 2026, while home invasions jumped into double digits within a year.
“No, This Is Not Satire”
The news broke earlier today, with the victim taking to social media and posting a warning to everyone in the country:
“If you live in the UK and do crypto get the f**k out.”
He then described a home invasion in which he was taped up, held at knifepoint and robbed for $800k, adding, “No this is not satire, I f**king wish it was.”
About an hour later, X user pr6spr vouched publicly for the victim and urged followers never to keep more than 10% to 20% of their net worth in crypto. The trader did not name a city, and no UK police statement had been published at the time of writing, so the account so far rests on two testimonies and a blockchain transaction.
The Onchain Trail, Minute by Minute
The victim attached a Solana address labeled “wallet with stolen funds,” along with the associated address on Solscan. The latter revealed a tight sequence of events:
- 10:38 p.m., Oct. 12: The wallet receives its first deposit of 346.13 SOL from a single sending address.
- 10:58 p.m.: Twenty minutes later, 718,735.8 USDC arrives, the bulk of the haul.
- 1:09 a.m., Oct. 13: The victim goes public on X.
- 1:20 a.m.: The SOL leaves in two transfers, a 20 SOL test and then the remaining 326.13 SOL.
- 1:41 a.m.: The full 718,735 USDC moves on to a fresh address, leaving the wallet holding only dust.
With SOL’s price currently near $107, the two deposits were worth roughly $756,000 combined, close to the trader’s $800,000 figure. The timing is also striking given that the attackers’ wallet sat untouched for more than two hours after the deposits and was emptied within 32 minutes of the victim’s post going live. That suggests whoever controls it was watching X.
The choice of USDC also matters since Circle can freeze its stablecoin at the contract level, so turning stolen funds into USDC is a risk for the thieves, and quick onward transfers are the usual way around it. Whether investigators or Circle can catch the funds before they reach a mixer or an offramp is now an open question.
Why the UK Isn’t the Safe Zone People Assumed
The entire episode comes at a time when such incidents are already on the rise. To this point, security firm Chainalysis verified $30 million worth of wrench attacks worldwide during the first half of 2026. Home invasions were the big shift, climbing from a single publicly reported case a year earlier to 20, or about 41% of all incidents. Europe accounted for about three-quarters of the cases.
France has been the epicenter, but Britain has its own open file. In September, Crimestoppers offered a £10,000 reward over a December home invasion in Solihull. Police say three men followed a couple inside, beat the husband, threatened his pregnant wife with a knife and forced a crypto transfer while a fourth suspect directed them by video call.
The pattern is not limited to Europe either and Bitcoin.com News reported last week that three armed men raided a gated home near Pattaya and drained $820K in crypto from an expat at gunpoint, a near-identical sum.
