John Mayer has launched his own record label, Sob Rock Records, in partnership with Mercury Records. To mark the occasion, he has announced a new single titled “Tom and Jerry.” Stream it below.
The track marks the singer-songwriter’s first new solo release since his 2021 album, Sob Rock, which is also where the name of his imprint comes from.

Produced by Mayer and Blake Slatkin and mixed by Serban Ghenea, “Tom and Jerry” was recorded at Chaplin Studios. The single made its debut on the seven-time Grammy winner’s SiriusXM channel, Life with John Mayer, on Thursday before arriving on streaming platforms that night.
The song sounds like it could have been recorded in the ’80s, though Mayer’s unmistakable voice keeps its soft and dreamy balladry from feeling dated.
“Working with Tyler Arnold and the talented team at Mercury Records has already proven to be a great partnership,” he said in a statement. “The path from creative vision to execution has never been easier or more rewarding. I feel very inspired, and I’m excited for what’s to come.”
Mayer is currently preparing for his first headlining residency at Sphere in Las Vegas next year, following his previous appearances at the venue with Dead & Company. Each concert will feature three distinct sets: a solo performance, a full-band set, and a reunion of the John Mayer Trio with bassist Pino Palladino and drummer Steve Jordan.
Originally announced as a six-show engagement, the residency has since expanded to 21 dates running from April through June 2027. Scroll on for the complete schedule and find tickets to sold-out shows here (you can save $20 on your first order of $200 or more with promo code COS20 at checkout).
