Jaxon Smith-Njigba has as strong a claim as any to be considered the best wide receiver in the NFL this season, as he’s delivered elite production as the centerpiece of the Seattle Seahawks’ offense.
Through five games, Smith-Njigba has emerged as one of the league’s most impactful playmakers, making a compelling argument that no receiver has been better.
Smith-Njigba’s league-leading totals in receiving yards (583) and touchdowns (7) highlight his historic start to the season. His remarkable pace has given him an advantage over other elite pass catchers, including Puka Nacua and CeeDee Lamb. While both remain among the league’s premier talents, Smith-Njigba’s combination of NFL-leading stats and consistency has separated him from the pack.
Justin Jefferson also deserves serious consideration, as his contributions have helped the Minnesota Vikings earn a 5-0 record to begin the year. His ability to deliver winning plays strengthens his case, while Ja’Marr Chase’s slow start has weakened his standing among the league’s top receivers. Still, individual production remains a critical factor in evaluating the position. Despite Seattle’s 3-2 record, Smith-Njigba’s outstanding numbers give him the edge over Jefferson and the field. If he maintains this pace, JSN may prove that his performance as the AP Offensive Player of the Year in 2025 settled the score then, and cement himself as the standard-setter at the position come season’s end.
