NILAI: The death of a 35-year-old female civil servant, allegedly at the hands of her own husband, has left her family heartbroken, particularly over the circumstances surrounding her death.
Her brother, Amran Ibrahim, 59, said the family was struggling to come to terms with the incident, which happened about 7pm yesterday at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) quarters in Jalan Kuarters KLIA here.
"We accepted it as fate if it was her time to go. However, the way she died is heartbreaking, especially since the person responsible was her own husband," he said when met at the scene early this morning.
Amran said he received a call from his younger brother about 7.30pm informing him that their youngest sister, Norhazwani Ibrahim, had allegedly been killed by her husband.
"At the time, I was at home in Pinggiran Batu Caves, Selangor, when I received a call from my younger brother. He told me that my brother-in-law (the suspect) had contacted him and said he had killed his own wife.
"I had mixed feelings. I was shocked, could not believe it and was also angry. I immediately contacted the police station because the suspect had also said he wanted to turn himself in," he said.
Amran said he later received confirmation of the incident from the police before rushing to the couple's home with other relatives.
He said Norhazwani, known as Wani or Mok Su among family members, had been closer to their eighth sibling than to the rest of the family.
"There are nine of us, and I am the eldest. The last time I saw her was about seven months ago, but we kept in touch through WhatsApp.
"Only three of us live in the Klang Valley, while the others, including our eighth sibling, live in Kelantan.
"Yesterday (Wednesday), he visited Wani's house and stayed overnight because he had some matters to attend to here.
"He even reminded her to take good care of her marriage. We never expected something so shocking to happen that night," he said.
Amran said the suspect was believed to have been released from prison a few days earlier after serving time for a drug-related offence.
The couple were also believed to be in the process of getting a divorce.
Describing his sister as cheerful and well-liked by family members and colleagues, Amran said her employer had offered to help arrange for her remains to be taken to Pengkalan Kubor, Tumpat, Kelantan, for burial.
"For now, we need to settle the post-mortem arrangements at Hospital Tuanku Ja'afar in Seremban first. It is expected to be conducted on Saturday.
"Other family members may wait in our hometown, while I will handle the arrangements here with relatives who live nearby," he said.
Negri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad was reported to have confirmed that the woman, a Customs Department officer, was found murdered at the government quarters.
He said the murder was believed to have been committed by her husband, who surrendered himself at a police station after the incident.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
