Prime Video's Life Is Strange series adaptation is officially one step closer to our screens, with production reportedly already wrapped on the upcoming show.
In case you need a little refresher: After years of chatter about a potential adaptation for Square Enix's popular third-person narrative adventure game series, the project left limbo and finally found a home at Prime Video in 2025. The show is a joint effort between Square Enix, Story Kitchen, LuckyChap, Familystyle Film, and Amazon MGM Studios.
“Story Kitchen has always believed that Life is Strange deserved to be more than just a game—it’s a cultural touchstone,” Story Kitchen's Dimitri M. Johnson and Mike Goldberg said in a statement when the show was announced. “After a decade-long journey, we’re honored to be bringing this beloved story to Amazon MGM alongside our incredible partners at Square Enix, our brilliant showrunner/writer Charlie Covell, and the amazing team at LuckyChap. Together, this thoughtfully assembled dream team is ready to share Life is Strange with the world in an entirely new way!”

As mentioned above, the series was created and penned by Charlie Covell. Covell is best known for their work on Netflix's two-season show End of the F***ing World, based on the 2011 graphic novel of the same name by Charles Forsman, and more recently on Netflix's KAOS.
“It’s a huge honor to be adapting Life Is Strange for Amazon MGM Studios,” Covell said in a statement when the series was ordered. "I am a massive fan of the game, and I’m thrilled to be working with the incredible teams at Square Enix, Story Kitchen, and LuckyChap. I can’t wait to share Max and Chloe's story with fellow players and new audiences alike.”
Charlie Covell in 2024
Dave Benett“We’ve been huge fans of the visionary Charlie Covell for years, so partnering with them on the adaptation of Life is Strange is truly a dream come true,” LuckyChap said. “Charlie is an exceptional steward of revered IP, and we feel incredibly fortunate to have them at the helm of such an original, beloved, and culturally resonant video game."
Nick Pepper of Amazon MGM Studios added that Covell “has crafted a deeply captivating story based on the iconic video game." He also described the project as "a monumental adaptation that will captivate devoted fans and new audiences alike.”
Aside from Covell, plenty of names are attached to the show, including Karyn Kusama, who serves both as an executive producer via Familystyle Film and as a director. As reported by Variety, Kusama directed the first two episodes of the upcoming series. Her previous directing credits also include shows like Yellowjackets and The L Word, as well as movies like Jennifer's Body and Girlfight.

Speaking to Variety, LuckyChap producer Natalie Berkus said: “What I love about Life is Strange is that it's a big and operatic idea based on beloved IP, but the thematic foundation of the show that Charlie has so brilliantly crafted is rooted entirely in the emotional truths of the characters. It's a really exciting foray into opening up the aperture of our brand and challenging ourselves to explore new types of stories and worlds while always coming back to the authenticity of our artists and what they want to tell.”

Michael Buckner/Getty ImagesFellow LuckyChap producer Dani Gorin also added: “If you've played Life is Strange, it really does lend itself to this sort of long-form storytelling. That's such a unique and exciting challenge for us. It’s something that we did with Barbie. We feel there’s a big opportunity there if the source material is treated with that sort of reverence and care. Everyone who’s part of making the show is a fan of the game. There are so many Easter eggs and little nods that the eagle-eyed fans are going to be so excited about.”
