The Motorola 68000 "m68k" CPU support continues being maintained in the mainline Linux kernel and continuing to see new hardware support for these vintage systems from the likes of Commodore Amiga, Atari, and early Apple Macintosh models.
Sent out today was the m68k changes for Linux 7.4 and it includes some new hardware support.
First up there is now support for the SVEthLANa Ethernet interface found on the Atari SuperVidel FPGA expansion card. This follows separate frame-buffer driver work for the SuperVidel SuperBlitter that came back for the Linux 7.3 kernel cycle. The SuperVidel expansion board is for the Atari Falcon030. The SVEthlana support can be enabled via the ATARI_SVETHLANA Kconfig option. The driver does require SuperVidel firmware version 10 or newer to be loaded on the system for Ethernet DMA support. This code also depends upon the "ethoc" module provided by the user for this OpenCore Ethernet package.
The other new hardware support for Motorola m68k hardware is adding support for the IDE interface on the Amiga CS-Lab Warp expansion card. CS-Lab s.c. Amiga Team offers Warp accelerator/expansion cards with IDE for storage and other connectivity improvements. Now with Linux 7.4, the IDE interface for the Warp expansion cards is now supported by the mainline kernel.
