Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan has commissioned seven facilities worth a total of US$1 billion in New Tashkent and launched construction of 10 additional major projects valued at US$2.5 billion. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev attended the opening and groundbreaking ceremonies on 12 October.
Construction of New Tashkent began three years ago. The first stage of the urban development project envisages initiatives worth a total of US$50 billion, using modern technological solutions. Plans for the city include 2,000 hectares of green areas, 500 hectares of parks and 150 million square metres of residential and non-residential buildings designed to green construction standards.
Work worth US$2 billion has been completed in New Tashkent to date. Residential buildings, universities, a library and an amphitheatre have already been built.
The seven newly commissioned facilities include the first phase of the Sharq Bahori residential complex, road and engineering infrastructure, the Yangi Toshkent Substation No. 1, a trigeneration plant, a Chamber of Commerce and Industry building, the Sohil Bogi park and a general education school with capacity for 2,000 students.
The trigeneration plant, built with the participation of Turkish company MIMSAN at a cost of US$73 million, will provide centralised heating and cooling to 100,000 households while also generating electricity. The substation and high-voltage power lines, developed jointly with China's Haocheng Industry Group Limited, cost US$95 million.
As part of the infrastructure development, 18 kilometres of roads, 13 kilometres of sewerage networks and 4.5 kilometres of drinking water supply networks have been laid. Walking and cycling paths have been built along a 10-kilometre stretch of the waterfront in Sohil Bogi park. Around 7,000 apartments have been constructed in the first phase of the Sharq Bahori residential complex.
The ceremony also marked the launch of 10 new projects with a combined value of US$2.5 billion. One of them is Deep Tech Park, an industrial zone focused on manufacturing high-tech products and semiconductors. The park is expected to receive US$320 million in investment, with further projects worth US$1.7 billion planned for its territory.
A waste collection and energy generation project will be implemented jointly with Finnish company MariMatic. Photovoltaic systems with a combined capacity of 20 MW are also planned for installation on the roofs of apartment buildings.
To improve transport links between New Tashkent and the capital, a bridge, an overpass and a 10-kilometre road connecting Temur Malik Street with the 4R12 highway will be built. Another project предусматривает the construction of an underground car park with access to metro stations.
The Metropolis business complex, covering more than 818,000 square metres, will accommodate offices, a hotel, residential buildings and service facilities. Business infrastructure will account for 500,000 square metres of the complex. The project is expected to provide employment for 1,500 people.
Other planned developments include the Silk City, Mavj and Marjon residential complexes, as well as a 120-bed central hospital for New Tashkent.
Mirziyoyev said the new projects should help establish New Tashkent as a centre for business, tourism and culture. The president thanked the builders, engineers, designers and international partners involved in developing the city.
