Agartala, October 21: The Youth Tipra Federation (YTF) has lodged a formal complaint with the Officer-in-Charge of NCC Police Station in Agartala against social media content creator Amir Shokeen, accusing him of allegedly subjecting an indigenous youth from Tripura to racial harassment, verbal abuse and humiliation in a video circulated on Instagram.
In its complaint dated October 21, the organisation sought the registration of an FIR against Shokeen under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act, 2000. It also urged the police to coordinate with Delhi Police and cybercrime authorities for appropriate legal action.
According to the complaint, the video was uploaded on September 19, 2026, and allegedly showed an interaction recorded in Delhi in which a youth from Tripura was subjected to racial slurs, abusive language and offensive gestures. The YTF alleged that the content creator repeatedly mocked the youth by referring to him as “Chinese” and used derogatory language while referring to Tripura.

The organisation further alleged that the state’s name was deliberately distorted into an obscene expression, describing the incident as an insult not only to the individual concerned but also to the indigenous community and the people of Tripura.
Emphasising the seriousness of racial discrimination against people from Northeast India, the YTF said such acts could undermine the dignity of indigenous citizens, encourage regional prejudice and create an atmosphere of hostility towards people from the region living in metropolitan cities.
The federation maintained that describing racial abuse as humour or social media entertainment could not justify the humiliation of another person. It called for prompt legal intervention to ensure accountability and protect the dignity of the youth and the state.
The complaint was signed by YTF president Suraj Debbarma, general secretary James Debbarma and other office-bearers, including district-level representatives.
The police were urged to register a case under applicable legal provisions and initiate proceedings against the accused. The allegations remain subject to investigation and legal determination.
