Residents of Sitharuvipatti, a remote hamlet at Melur taluk in Madurai district, continue to endure severe hardships due to a total lack of basic infrastructure such as all-weather roads and reliable drinking water facility.
Home to over 20 residents within Kesampatti panchayat of Kottampatti union, the village has long been grappling with isolation. The absence of a proper approach road has severely affected daily life, leaving school-going children struggling to commute and putting residents in immense peril during medical emergencies as ambulance vans and other vehicles cannot reach the settlement.
Compounding the transportation woes is an acute scarcity of safe drinking water, says Jeeva, a resident.
Local villagers have repeatedly appealed to the administration, passing multiple resolutions at gram sabha meetings and submitting formal petitions to the Madurai Collector. Despite the persistent appeals, no concrete remedial action has been taken on the ground, the residents say.
Expressing frustration over the official apathy, Mr. Jeeva points out the stark contrast in State infrastructure priorities. While multi-lane highways are developed elsewhere, their community remains entirely neglected, he rues
The residents have appealed to Collector Nishant Krishna and the State Government to intervene immediately, prioritise community needs, and ensure that essential amenities such as roads and drinking water are delivered to Sitharuvipatti.
