ULSAN — A research team led by Professor Baek Seung-ryul at the Graduate School of Artificial Intelligence at Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) placed among the top finishers in three international competitions held alongside the European Conference on Computer Vision (ECCV 2026), the institute said on the 11th. Computer vision is the technology that enables computers to recognize and interpret objects and motion in images.
The team took first place in BuzzSpot, a contest on detecting insects in farmland; second in DexGraspMotion, which involves generating robotic hand movements; and third in MoCA, which focuses on analyzing the gait of patients with Parkinson's disease. The researchers built a lightweight model that performs well despite limited insect footage, and separately adapted a single demonstration movement so that robots could reliably grasp unfamiliar objects.
"We have demonstrated that vision AI technology can solve real-world problems across a range of fields, including agriculture, robotics and medicine," Baek said.
