Led by consul general Marylee Wall, the office will support Irish citizens abroad, promote Irish culture and strengthen local ties. The initiative reflects Ireland’s commitment to maintaining international cultural connections and providing consular services to its expatriate population.
The consulate, inaugurated in September, serves Andalucía, Murcia, Extremadura and the Canary Islands. More than three million Irish nationals visited Spain in 2025, with approximately 30% travelling to the Canary Islands and 25% to Andalucía.
The Irish embassy in Madrid handled 427 consular cases that year, representing nearly a quarter of Ireland’s worldwide consular caseload. The new office also plans to support cultural celebrations, including Bloomsday and St. Patrick’s Day festivities.
