Russia’s Vladimir Putin floated the possibility of a summit with Chinese leader Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump to negotiate a deal to end the Ukraine war, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The White House hasn’t commented on Putin’s proposal to Trump, but the idea of a three-way meeting at a summit in Shenzhen next month is consistent with Trump’s campaign promise to end the Ukraine war, as well as his personalist brand of foreign policy that favors face-to-face talks with US adversaries.
But Trump is already facing blowback from Republicans for his overtures to Putin, including waiving Russia sanctions and agreeing a diesel deal, and the growing revolt threatens additional Pentagon funding.
