Texas A&M heads back to Kyle Field for the final time this month, set to host The Citadel on Saturday afternoon after falling to Missouri on the road 27-6 in Week 6. With starting quarterback Marcel Reed struggling consistently in the pocket, first-year OC Holmon Wiggins shouldn't be blamed for all the offense's problems, but his lack of play-calling imagination isn't helping.
Needing a full reset in order to have any real shot at winning at least two more games in SEC play to reach bowl eligibility after hosting The Citadel, coach Mike Elko's decision to keep Marcel Reed as the starter has rightfully been questioned, but given the lack of veteran depth behind him, it's fair to say that Marcel Reed's days as the Aggies' starter are numbered, but I wouldn't be shocked if he finishes out the regular season.
Still, sophomore and current backup QB Brady Hart deserves a shot to prove to the coaching staff he is worthy of competing for a starting job in 2027, however far-fetched that may sound. After rushing for just 29 yards and 1.3 yards per carry against Missouri, Texas A&M's rushing attack shouldn't have any issues against the Bulldogs' undersized defense.
Based on how Texas A&M has performed this season, a 4-8 finish is in the cards, as ESPN FPI gives the Aggies a 99% chance to win on Saturday before they face Alabama on the road in Week 8. For Mike Elko, testing his quarterback depth and playing his younger players on both sides of the ball should be the focus against a less-talented opponent.
