TL;DR
- Google is rolling out the first 2026 update for the Chromecast with Google TV 4K.
- The update includes the August 2026 security patch, plus bug fixes and performance improvements.
- The Chromecast with Google TV HD and current Google TV Streamer aren’t receiving corresponding updates for now.
When Google replaced the Chromecast with Google TV 4K with the Google TV Streamer, it delivered a welcome hardware upgrade, including a noticeably faster processor. Still, launching with an older chipset made the new hardware feel less ambitious than it could have been. Rumors now suggest Google plans to address that with an even faster processor in the next-generation Streamer. But until that device arrives, the company hasn’t completely forgotten about the aging Chromecast still sitting behind plenty of TVs.
Google is now rolling out the first Chromecast with Google TV 4K update of 2026, and it arrives nearly a year after the device’s November 2025 update.
