TOPEKA (KSNT) — Football players from across the region will have an opportunity to compete for a spot in a national tournament when the 2027 Battle of the Best 7-on-7 National Qualifier comes to Topeka.
The event will feature teams competing in multiple age divisions, including high school varsity, with a chance to qualify for the Battle of the Best National 7-on-7 Invitational Championships in the Dallas-Fort Worth area in May.
The event is for boys and girls flag football.
Wesley White, who helps Premier Event USA as a recruiter, is helping bring the national qualifying competition to the Capital City.
"I really enjoy helping these athletes get on the teams," White said. "I'm Topeka born and raised, and there's so much talent here and around the area. We thought this would be a great opportunity in the capital city."
The tournament will give athletes an opportunity to test their skills against competition from outside their local areas while working toward a spot in the national championship event.
7-on-7 football is a non-contact format that emphasizes passing, route running, quarterback play and defensive coverage. The format has become a popular way for high school football players to develop their skills during the offseason.
The event is scheduled for Feb. 27-28 at the Sunflower Sports Complex in Topeka.
