The New York Giants are signing guard Josh Gesky to their practice squad, per multiple reports.
ESPN’s Jordan Raanan was the first to report the signing, followed by Aaron Wilson.
Gesky, 23, originally signed with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted rookie out of Illinois and will reunite with former Illini teammate JC Davis as a Giant. Gesky appeared in 48 games over the course of his college career and started 34 games for Illinois, with 32 of his starts coming at left guard. He has adequate size for a guard at 6-foot-5, and roughly 310 pounds and solid athleticism for the position.
He was regarded as a better pass protector than run blocker coming out of college, though that seems to be due to questions regarding leverage more than play strength in the run game.
Still, Gesky was a relatively sought-after rookie free agent, with the Packers guaranteeing $200,000 of his rookie salary to entice him to Green Bay. He was ultimately waived in the Packers’ final cut-downs and re-signed to their practice squad. The Packers released him earlier this week as they reshuffled their practice squad.
