In advance of the release of Grand Theft Auto VI next month—a momentous occasion for anyone interested in the art and history of video games—the Wynwood Walls mural museum in Miami has partnered with Rockstar Games to grant free admission to local residents through 2028. The museum also unveiled 10 new murals commissioned and created for the fictional world of the game, to remain on view through January 1.
The artworks were conceived for Stockyard, a Wynwood Walls–like locale in Grand Theft Auto’s Miami-inspired Vice City. The artists who made the murals, for the museum campus and around the neighborhood of Wynwood, include ATOMIK, Tatiana Suarez, Askew One, DENIAL, FAILE, Gons and Audet, Lady AIKO, Queen Andrea, Ron English, and Tristan Eaton. (Other street and tattoo artists whose work features in the new video game were curated by the Detroit-based creative agency 1XRUN.)
In a press release, Jessica Goldman Srebnick, the mural museum’s CEO and curator, said, “Wynwood Walls Museum was born from the creative spirit of the neighborhood and the vibrant energy of Miami. Even as the Walls have grown from local treasure to global destination, this community has remained our anchor.” Of Rockstar Games, she said, “Their commitment to creativity, supporting the arts, and love of Miami mirrors our own, making them an ideal partner in sharing the Walls with the people who call this city home.”
Wynwood Walls also launched “The Art of Vice City,” a new capsule collection of merch related to the in-game artwork in Grand Theft Auto VI.
