The crisis in the Plateau State Chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has deepened after twelve local government chairmen passed a vote of no confidence in the party’s state leadership, led by Comrade Solomon Yakubu Ndam.
Recall that the party’s state chairman, Comrade Solomon Yakubu Ndam, rejected Da Jonathan Akuns’ emergence as the NDC governorship candidate in Plateau State on Monday at a press conference, calling his nomination by the NDC leadership a fabrication, and instead declared Engr. Alfred Ali Dapal as the party’s authentic candidate.
Ndam also called on the Inspector General of Police and Plateau State Police Command to look into the alleged forgery of his signature on INEC Form ECIIB, which included his name and photo.

Addressing newsmen on behalf of the local government Chairmen of the party, the Chairman of Riyom, Hon. Samuel James, expressed concerns about how the party’s internal affairs were being managed, especially its internal democratic procedures and the behavior of those in charge of the state’s party leadership.
He stated that the allegations made against the emergence of the state gubernatorial candidate are issues that can be investigated by competent authorities, but that as the party’s state chairman, Ndam has a duty to defend the party’s position as reflected in INEC’s final list of governorship candidates, which includes the governorship candidate and his running mate.
According to him, the Chairman’s singular act harmed the NDC’s reputation, defamed NDC flag bearers, confused party members, and armed NDC opponents.
He therefore called on the party’s National Headquarters to urgently investigate the allegations and supporting documents submitted by the signatories, and on the state chairman and relevant exco members to explain the alleged anti-party activities and the controversy surrounding the litigation instituted by Alfred Ali Dapal.
Hon. James declared: “Party office is a trust. Those who hold it must defend the party’s legitimate candidates, comply with lawful party decisions and promote unity, not undermine the party from within.“
