In a statement, the company revealed that the new store will be located at GaiaShopping, becoming the brand's first store in the city and its 16th in Portugal. The opening will strengthen Primark's presence in the Porto Metropolitan Area, adding to its existing stores at NorteShopping and Parque Nascente.
The new store will have 3,000 square metres of retail space, spread across a single floor, and promises to bring the brand's best products to the region. With departments ranging from fashion and beauty to homeware and everyday essentials, customers will also be able to discover the latest autumn/winter collections.
The opening is "scheduled for the start of the Christmas season, allowing customers at the new Primark store in Gaia to make the most of every Christmas moment, from cosy nights at home and family gatherings to festive celebrations and parties".
Quoted in the statement, Nelson Ribeiro, Head of Sales at Primark Portugal & Spain, said the company was "delighted to finally announce the opening date of our new store at GaiaShopping".
Nelson Ribeiro also expressed his enthusiasm about welcoming new customers and further strengthening the brand's presence in the Porto district.
Primark expansion
In 2026, Primark has already opened a store in Setúbal, demonstrating its plans for expansion across the country. The brand has also announced the opening of its first high-street store in Portugal, a five-storey building in Porto, as reported by The Portugal News.
Primark first arrived in Portugal in 2009, opening a store at the shopping centre now known as UBBO, in Amadora, Lisbon.
The brand has consistently stood out for its wide range of products and affordable prices, attracting large numbers of customers wherever it opens a store. For example, its store at Fórum Coimbra, which is currently undergoing refurbishment, attracts shoppers from several cities across central Portugal, including customers from the Aveiro district.
Thanks to their affordable prices and extensive product ranges, Primark stores are particularly popular during the Christmas season. The opening of the new store will therefore serve customers in Vila Nova de Gaia during one of the busiest periods of the year for gift shopping.
