Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin left Saturday’s game against Indiana with an apparent injury in the fourth quarter, putting backup Luke Fahey into a tight Big Ten matchup.
The Buckeyes led 19-15 when Fahey entered, leaving the freshman to take over the offense with Ohio State protecting a four-point advantage at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Indiana.
The nature and severity of Sayin’s apparent injury could not immediately be independently confirmed.
Sayin had helped Ohio State take a 10-7 halftime lead, connecting with running back Bo Jackson for a 2-yard touchdown on fourth-and-goal with seven seconds remaining in the second quarter. The score capped a 15-play, 80-yard drive.
Sayin completed 10 of 21 passes for 147 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the first half. Indiana also sacked him twice before halftime as its defense pressured the Buckeyes’ passing game.
Fahey’s entrance placed the freshman in a pivotal situation against an Indiana team that entered Saturday unbeaten. Ohio State came into the matchup 5-1 overall, with both teams holding 3-0 records in Big Ten play.
