KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court's decision to stay Perikatan Nasional's suspension and deregistration has strengthened the coalition's resolve ahead of the Melaka election.
Parti Wawasan Negara (Wawasan) president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said the decision also offered renewed hope for PN to participate in the country's democratic process in a healthy and fair manner.
"Power is not a licence to act as one pleases. The law must not be used as a tool to suppress those with differing views.
"Today's positive decision will further strengthen PN's resolve to consolidate its position, offer the people the best policies and services, and translate these efforts into public support in the upcoming Melaka election," he said in a statement.
Earlier, High Court judge Datuk Azizan Md Arshad allowed PN's application to stay its suspension and subsequent deregistration by the Registrar of Societies (RoS).
The decision comes just nine days before nomination day for the Melaka election, paving the way for the coalition to resume its political activities and preparations to contest under its own name and symbol.
"Wawasan welcomes the High Court's decision to stay the RoS notice concerning the revocation of PN's registration, allowing the coalition to use its logo in the upcoming Melaka state election.
"Today's decision is in line with the late Sultan Azlan Shah's judgment in the 1979 case of Director of Lands and Mines, Federal Territory v Sri Lempah Enterprise Sdn Bhd, which stated that 'every power must have legal limits, otherwise it will lead to dictatorial rule'," he said.
