On the weekend, we took a walk along the wooden boardwalk in Alvor and it by no means happened that we were the only ones having the morning out.

There were a lot of people walking about, together with those who had dogs and cyclists, making the most of this lovely part of the Algarve.
The Passadiços de Alvor are wooden paths which lead you through the dunes and along the Ria de Alvor, giving views over the water, the salt marshes, and the sandy areas. They also serve to protect the delicate dunes by enabling visitors to explore without having to walk on the vegetation.
It's a pleasant spot for watching birds since it offers shelter and feeding areas for the birds that live there as well as those that are migrating through seasonally. Autumn is an especially interesting time to go there because the birds are moving south to Africa. Although you don’t need to have a great deal of knowledge about birds, there is still a lot to observe on the journey.

One more thing that I enjoy about this area is that it's easy to combine this walk with a trip to Alvor's town centre. Once you've been out in the morning, go into the narrow streets, take a look round and then pick a place for lunch.
For me, this is a perfect weekend morning - having a walk with beautiful views and then enjoying good food at a local restaurant.
