For 12 years, Grace Nandutu operated a second-hand clothes shop on Naboa Road in Mbale City. But in April this year, she packed her bales and returned to her village in Muyembe Town Council, Bulambuli District.
She has since opened a similar shop in Muyembe, where she pays Shs100,000 in monthly rent, down from the Shs1 million she was paying in Mbale, excluding other expenses such as taxes, transport and electricity.
