(ANSA) - MADRID, 20 OTT - The ceremony to present the “Aldo Olcese” Award to Caterina Biscari will be held on October 22 at the Italian Embassy in Madrid. The annual award was established by the Embassy in memory of Aldo Olcese Santonja (1957–2025), a Spanish intellectual and entrepreneur of Italian origin.
The award is intended for academics, entrepreneurs, researchers, and artists. Italian and Spanish citizens who have developed strong professional and personal ties with Spain and Italy are eligible to apply, in recognition of Dr. Olcese’s dedication to Italy. The award is given to individuals who, in the course of their scientific or entrepreneurial activities, have combined professional success with a humanistic vision of work, attentive to ethical implications and social impact.
Nominations for the “Aldo Olcese” Award are submitted exclusively by seven Italian-Spanish institutions of proven prestige. An independent committee selects the winner from among these nominees. This year, last May, the award went to Caterina Biscari, a physicist and director of the Alba Synchrotron in Barcelona.
The award ceremony will take place on Thursday, presided over by Italian Ambassador Giuseppe Buccino Grimaldi, who will open the event at 7:00 p.m. with his welcoming remarks. Speakers will include Alessandra Patera of the Alba Synchrotron in Barcelona, who will discuss “Caterina Biscari’s Scientific Journey,” and artist Chantal Valeriani of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, who will present the award sculpture. Following the award presentation, Caterina Biscari will deliver her acceptance speech. The ceremony will conclude with a panel discussion, after which a buffet dinner will be served for the guests.
