Colombo, Oct. 15 (Daily Mirror) - A joint operation involving the Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Coast Guard, the Police Narcotics Bureau and the Police Special Task Force has led to the recovery of six sacks containing suspected narcotics, two satellite phones and a Starlink device from the southern coastal area, officials said.
It was reported that the recovery was carried out this morning following an investigation linked to the interception of a fishing trawler two days earlier.
Information obtained during that earlier operation prompted authorities to suspect that a transfer of contraband had taken place along the coastline.
In response, security personnel coordinated a search and tightened surveillance along the coastal stretch from Dondra to Ambalangoda in an effort to locate the suspected drugs and identify those involved.
The individuals believed to be connected to the operation had reportedly left the area before authorities arrived, and no suspects or vessel were present at the recovery site.
The recovered items have been taken for further examination and investigation. Authorities are expected to verify the nature and quantity of the suspected narcotics.
