The news is in on the latest Ottawa Senators injury update. The Linus Ullmark injury timeline has been passed along by the, recently extended, head coach Travis Green. So let’s discuss, join us as we get sensational.

The Linus Ullmark Injury News Isn’t Worst Case
Linus Ullmark is out a week to two weeks with a lower body strain. "That's as good as I can say right now," says Travis Green. #Sens

Last night in Ottawa with the emotional high from all that was going on, as they had the Brady Tkachuk return to town to contend with, almost everything went right for the Senators. They won 5-1 putting their stamp on a game that could’ve brought doubt to the roster, but instead they rallied. Beating a strong Atlantic Division rival and ruining their former captain’s return, was exactly what the doctor ordered. Unfortunately, what the doctor didn’t prescribe, was the injury to Ullmark.

In the third period of action, Ullmark had gone down to his knees, on a seemingly harmless play. However, he was unable to continue and had to be helped off the ice. There was some assurance as some reporters mentioned Ullmark was seen leaving the Canadian Tire Centre last night, and for the most part, was walking fine.
Earlier today he was put on injured reserve, so we knew he would miss at least seven days. Now, we were given the latest timeline, and that is that he should miss anywhere from one-to-two weeks. Based on the schedule, between now and the following Wednesday, November 4th, including tonight’s game versus the San Jose Sharks, the Sens play seven games.
Ullmark is Playing Like the Star Ottawa Traded For
The one negative thing about the timing, is just how strong Ullmark has been performing. Going back since January 31st, about the time he returned to the Sens crease last season following a lay off, his 21 wins ranks first among all NHL goalies. Furthermore, he has a .915 save percentage, good for fifth, and a sparkling 2.12 goals-against average has him ranked third. This season, according to Moneypuck‘s goals-saved above expected, his rating of 8.4 is second in the entire NHL. With a 7-1-0 record to begin the year, he is currently playing the role of star for the club, and there’s really no denying that fact.
Ottawa’s Nick Cousins has been fined $4,091.49, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for unsportsmanlike conduct towards an opponent while on Ottawa’s bench.

Another’s Opportunity?
Samuel Ersson will play in the interim. Unfortunately, and yes the sample size isn’t there, but Ersson has struggled early on to begin 2026-27. He is 0-2-0, with a 4.70 goals-against average and an .831 save percentage. Moreover, the Sens have called up goaltender Jonas Johansson from the AHL’s Belleville Senators. He has done well with a 2.92 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage in five games in the ‘A’ thus far. Therefore, it should provide enough support for Ersson, until Ullmark gets back to 100% health. However, as we seen from last year, when the now departed Leevi Merilainen departed, and they had to bring James Reimer out of retirement, don’t expect general manager Steve Staios to stand idly by if they run into any sort of technical difficulties.
One more note from last night’s game, is that Nick Cousins was fined for his actions during the contest. It was a wild affair last night in Ottawa vs Florida, and a ton of penalties were handed out. Cousins was fined specifically for something he did while on the bench. But, it won’t impact his status for tonight’s game vs the San Jose Sharks.
The Last Word
We have discussed it repeatedly, but if this injury to Ullmark persists, or he has more, don’t expect Staios to sit around twiddling his thumbs. Unless that twiddling is in the form of typing out texts to the group GM chat, he would make a move. Between Ersson, or even for the forwards like Andre Burakovsky, who was a healthy scratch last night, Staios is being patient. With the Sens hot 7-3-0 start, he has the chips in his corner. Now, Ottawa doesn’t have a lot of salary cap space, around $1.5 million accordingly to puckpedia.com, but if they need to make a move for an upgrade, we think Staios will make something happen. One final note, as the lineup’s have been announced, Burakovsky is out again tonight vs San Jose, in favour of Hayden Hodgson. He had a fight last night for Ottawa, so coach Green must’ve appreciate what he brought to the table. He will get a chance to do it again.
